I love this fabric!

So I usually don't fall in love with fabric.  I know, I'm a quilter.  I'm suppose to love fabric.  But I almost never fall in love with a fabric all by itself.  I've fallen in love with lines of fabrics, but not usually one all by itself.  Are you a quilter that rarely falls in love with a fabric, or is it just me?

For some reason I love this fabric!

A few weeks ago I bought a bit and tried out Me and My Sisters Designs free pattern Sweet Treats Bag.  The pattern is designed for a honey bun, but I used just this fabric.  Here's the finished bag. 

So handy for throwing all my toiletries in for traveling!  And it went together super fast!  (Which is good, because it's all I've had time for lately.)  I would definitely recommend this pattern.

After looking at the bag for a few weeks, I decided I need a quilt with this fabric.  I just love it!  So I decided to make a disappearing nine patch with these fabrics.

I got all the blocks started during the Friday Night Sew In but not enough to have any pictures.  I'm finally feeling motivated to pull my machine out and get working on something.  Now those UFOs that's another story for another day.  

What I've been doing

I can tell you the last month has been crazy and the one thing I have not been doing is sewing.  I don't think I've even pulled my machine out in three or four weeks.  Soon, it will resurface I'm sure. 

In the mean time I've been swamped at work during the week and been traveling on the weekends.  I was out of town every weekend in August.

The first weekend we went up to Sacramento for a friends birthday.  He rented out a curling rink and we spent several hours learning to curl.  It was so much fun!  To my Canadian friends who have probably very familiar with this sport, I have now have a lot more respect for how hard it is!

The next weekend I was in Chicago for my sister's bachelorette party. She's not getting married until November, but the five girls in her bridal party all met up with her in Chicago for a very fun weekend. It was my first time there and the best part was the architectural river boat cruise we took. Chicago is such a beautiful city.


















The following weekend we went with our Church group to a cabin we rented at Donner Lake Tahoe. 

The weather was beautiful and the lake water was 71 degrees.  We spent a day kayaking and learning to stand-up paddle board.  We only fell in the lake a few times.  :-)

I'm so thankful that this weekend is a nice long weekend and I'll be home.  After the laundry and house cleaning is done, I just might get that sewing machine back out.

Making Progress

I got the baby quilt top put together today.  Now to get it quilted and the binding on.  I can make it by Thursday!

On Order...One Baby Quilt...by Thursday

It's been a crazy couple of weeks, and I haven't pulled my sewing machine out in days.  But I am ready for a project.  I just might have bit off more than I can chew on this one.

We went to visit my MIL this weekend and she casually mentioned that my husbands niece is having a baby shower next Sunday.  I probably should have kept my mouth shut at that point but instead what came out was "I need to make her a baby quilt!"  Did I mention the shower is on Sunday?  On top of that I'm headed out of town on Friday, which means I have to get it in the mail by Thursday to have any hope of having it at the shower.  Sometimes I just need to learn to say less, but what fun would that be.

Luckily she is having a boy and I have been dying to make a boy's quilt.  I picked up fabric on the way home today and will be frantically quilting to get it done in the next three days.  Here's what I picked up.

  Needless to say, I will be using a simple pattern and wish me luck that I can find the time to get it done by Thursday without staying up all night.
