I'm so excited!!!

See this big room?  Any guesses as to what it might be?

It's my new sewing room!

As I mentioned earlier the house we live in is currently up for sale.  Last week we got told it has sold and we have to move.   Needless to say...Yikes!

But yesterday our offer got accepted for a condo of our very own!  I'm so excited.  This big room is the second bedroom with lots of extra room for a permanent sewing space and two nice big closets for building my stash.

Needless to say, I likely won't be getting much sewing done in the next few weeks as we will be packing and moving, but I plan to pack my sewing stuff last, so I can keep a little sanity amongst the craziness.

Finally dusted off my machine!

I pulled out my machine and got something done last night!  It felt so nice, until I had to clean every last thread up and put it back away.

First I got these receiving blankets done out of some flannel I had gotten on sale.  Katie had put a link on her blog for a group that is collecting them.  Amy at Amy's Creative Side and her friend Amy are trying to collect 200 receiving blankets and onsies to send to South Sudan on October 24th.

Then I got working on this little fall wall hanging.  It still needs some work, but it might get done before Fall ends this year.  Considering it didn't get done last fall I think I'm doing good, don't you.

 I would have gotten more done, but I had a constant challenge dealing with this.  We have three bunnies, who usually are more interested in trying to chew my foot pedal chord and distract me from what I'm working on, but last night they decided to empty the closet where we keep all their stuff.  I think they have figured out where we keep the treats and were determined they needed to find them.  My hubby and I were laughing so hard.  The best part was that Kaity Lu, our precocious little lop on the top shelf, decided to become an escape artist last night.  After we went to bed, she figured out how to escape her cage.  We put her back, but this morning we found her out again trying to figure out how to get back into that cabinet.

Still here...just not doing much stiching

I can't believe it's been over a month since my last post. Mostly because I haven't gotten much sewing done. My big excuse is that three weeks ago we got a call from a realtor (not our management company which I’m still irritated at) telling us that the people who own the house we live in is putting it up for sale. He gave us two days to get the house ready to start showing to prospective buyers! Yikes!

It has send us on a whirlwind trip first to find a new place to rent and when that wasn’t working out to well we started looking at places to buy for our own. We put an offer in on a cute two bedroom condo yesterday and are praying that they will accept it! It’s almost twice the size of our current house and has a hot tub just yards away and is within walking distance to the LQS and coffee shop. I could definitely get used to it!

In the mean time, I haven’t felt much like pulling out my sewing machine and a project since every evening it has to be put back away in case they want to show the house.

I have gotten one small project done. It’s a baby blanket for my sister in law who is due in just a few weeks.

It was supposed to be a girl but a month ago that got thrown out the window and they are now convinced it is a boy, so this was thrown together last minute before the baby shower last weekend. It wasn’t local, so I didn’t get to go, but I hope she likes it. I thought the little giraffe rattle was a cute touch.

I debated long and hard about the label. The baby doesn’t have a name yet, and even the last name is up in the air since she isn’t married to the dad, so in the end I didn’t put one on at all. Maybe I can add it later. Sigh…the never ending label dilemma.




I’ve decided to try and get back into sewing a bit and join the Friday Night Sew In tonight. I think it is safe to pull out my sewing machine and work on a small project. Someone is coming to look at the house at 10am tomorrow morning so I can’t get too involved in anything big. Here’s the project I’m planning to work on. I’ve had this little kit for exactly a year now and think it’s time to get started on it.

make the blocks smaller!

I liked my big Mariner's Compass block so much I made these.  The large one is 12 inches.  This little one would finish into a 5" circle, but I think I am going to use them in the corners to frame the larger one.  Something like this.

(Sorry...not great pictures, but the lighting isn't so good tonight and I'm having trouble getting them to stay on my make-shift design wall.)

Now I just have to figure out what background I want to put it on.  I'm going to need to buy fabric for that one, so it'll be a few days.  My LQS closed down until October (it is changing ownership), so I have a 25 minute drive to get to the next closest store, which probably won't happen until next week.
