I'm still alive, I promise. I have been super busy the last month and very little quilting has been done, but I did manage to get October's UFO put together. Here it is! Sorry, the picture isn't the best. I've been working on this at the LQS open sewing night because I'm hoping I can get it completed before Christmas as a gift for the hubby.
The story behind this quilt is that a while back the hubby decided he wanted to learn to quilt. It was shortly after I had taken a "Stack the Deck" class based upon Karla Alexander's book. I decided this was the more forgiving project I could set him on, so he collected all the black and white fabrics, with one red fabric to add some contrast and started.
Needless to say, he got 18 blocks together. They aren't exactly all flat, but they are together. Then he gave up. Since 18 nine inch blocks didn't exactly make a quilt that would even make a lap quilt for him, I decided to add the red and black blocks.
I bought some fabric last summer that he fell in love with that I think will be perfect for the border, but of course, I didn't buy enough, so I've been trying to track down more online.
It's from Robert Kaufman's Night and Day 3 line. Isn't it fun?
So that's October's UFO (mostly) done. Now onto November. Just some applique on my brown and pink quilt and a few borders. Shouldn't be too hard.
That last fabric is fantastic! It's nice that at least your husband tried quilting; that probably gave him a greater appreciation for all you do to make your beautiful quilts! Your finish on his quilt will be special! ---"Love"
ReplyDeleteIt is great that he wanted to learn. It helps build appreciation for the quilts you make. He did a great job and it's fun to know you are finishing it for his Christmas gift. If you can't find more border fabric maybe you can use some solid black in the border, too. I'll be watching for progress on this one.
ReplyDeleteSo the hubby decided he wasn't a quilter after all? Too funny, but I think it's great that he tried. Mine still thinks fabric carries deadly diseases! The quilt looks great and I bet your hubby will be happy to have it. He can even say he helped! I hope life settles down a bit for you so you can sew more soon.

My hubby will barely enter a quilt store, not even the one I work in. Forget about sewing a stitch. Good for yours that he tried.
ReplyDeleteI think it is great that you are finishing it for him as a surprise. Hope you can find more of the border fabric or add something else to it.It is cool and would look so good on this quilt.
Fantastic! Both the quilt and hubby's interest in quilting. At least he gave it a shot. Good luck with your search - it looks like fireworks. I'd be happy to get any sewing done. Right now work is taking over! That needs changing and soon. ann :-)
